Question: A woman asks about the ruling of turning in the prayer to seek refuge [with Allāh] from the Shaytān?
Shaykh al-‘Allāmah Ibn Baaz (may Allāh have mercy upon him) responded,
“There is nothing wrong with turning [the head] to seek refuge with Allāh from the accursed Shaytān in the prayer, when [experiencing] whispers.
Rather, this is recommended when there is a strong need for it, by turning the head alone because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded ‘Uthmaan Ibn Abee Al-‘Aas Al-Thaqafee with this when he complained of hearing the whispers of the Shaytān. So he commanded him to spit lightly upon his left side three times and seek refuge with Allāh from the Shaytān.
He implemented this and Allāh cured him. As for turning away in the prayer without a reason, then it is disliked due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him),
“It is a snatching away which the devil steals from the prayer of the servant.” Bukhari (no. 751)
May Allāh grant everyone success to execute that which He is pleased with. Verily, he is the One who answers the supplications, the All Hearing.”

A common mistake that people make is that they turn their whole body away from the direction of the Qiblah when trying to implement this Prophetic Sunnah.
Notice how the Shaykh mentioned that the one praying should solely turn their head
